Niche audiences
Niche audiences allow you to send Requests to a specific group of testers based on your research goals. When conducting User Interviews or Self-Guided Tasks in Fable Engage, you can target a subset of our Community that meets specific criteria.
What is a Niche audience?
A Niche audience is a paid feature that lets you group testers based on shared traits or behaviors. Adding a Niche audience to your Request helps you collect targeted feedback. Each Niche audience includes users of a variety of different assistive technology types.

What criteria can I use to create a Niche audience?
You can define a Niche audience based on behaviors, shopping preferences, industry experience, demographics, and more.
Examples of Niche audiences include testers who:
- Have experience with technical concepts like artificial intelligence.
- Manage financial decisions for their household, such as debt management, daily banking, and investing.
- Can speak to the challenges of booking and using transportation options including ride-shares and air travel.

Do I have access to Niche audiences?
Niche audiences are a paid add-on that can be added to your current Fable Engage subscription. Please reach out to your Customer Success Manager (CSM) for more information.
Custom vs. Niche audiences
A Custom audience lets you select specific assistive technologies, device types, operating systems and/or browsers. It is a separate feature from a Niche audience, with key differences:
- Custom audiences are only supported in a Compatibility Test.
- Custom audiences are included with all Fable Engage subscriptions. Niche audiences are a paid add-on.
How to set up a Niche audience
To set up a Niche audience, contact your CSM. Here’s how the process works:
- Define the criteria that are important for your research goals.
- Work with your CSM to create a Niche audience that aligns with your research needs.
- Once created, your Niche audience will automatically appear as a selection in the Create Request flow.

Are Niche audiences the same as screeners?
Screeners are questions used to qualify or disqualify people from participating in a research study. Screening criteria can be changed for every research study.
Fable Niche Audiences are predefined tester lists that cannot be changed for each research study. You can learn more about how screeners compare to Fable’s Niche audiences in How to recruit and screen for accessibility research.
